Asclepias syriaca, called Common Milkweed, Butterfly Flower, and Silkweed is an herbaceous plant species that used to be more common along roadsides and in successional fields. This species is native to most of North America and is one of the primary foods for the monarch butterfly. It can be quite robust and will colonize local areas in which it is established, through rhizomes that expand each year. Deer and ground hogs will sometimes eat the young foliage.

Delicately and beautifully fragrant, it is visited by a variety of different pollinators.  Position yourself in the downwind breeze and enjoy the delightful aroma.

We also carry Asclepias speciosa, Asclepias purpurea and Aslepias verticillata.

Information

Prices listed are subject to change, based upon size change and availability.

We are a small local nursery with limited shipping capability. We will do our best to ship smaller material (usually 1 or 2 gallon), although we can sometimes ship larger plants with the pots removed.

We have some species that are not listed, as we have too few of them to make a full listing plausible. You can always inquire.

We will consider contract growing an order with appropriate advance notice and availability of seed, cuttings or lining out stock.
